Who Am I?

Hey! I’m Brittney!

I am a devoted outdoor enthusiast from Ventura, California and I am NOT a professional at ANYTHING.

I can be found attempting to surf, downhill mountain bike, ski and snowboard, play guitar, create mediocre artwork, and cook good food, but I’m most passionate about rock climbing and getting to know (and love) new places!

I also work full time, which isn’t the best recipe for traveling the world or becoming pro (or even remotely great) at anything—hence unremarkable. It also means my trips are usually short-lived and on a budget.

Despite the unfortunate reality that I need to work to afford to live, and I cannot focus all my energy on hobbies, I do what I can when I can, and still find a way to have memorable adventures in new places on a budget.

I might not be a pro climber, surfer, or skier, but neither are you, so why are we looking to pros for recommendations?

I might be unremarkable at many things, but I’m great at making realistic travel plans with backup plans and wiggle room in case I find an even cooler adventure once I arrive! I like to call it “planned spontaneity”.

If you’re an unremarkable adventurer like me, read on and safe travels!

Why I'm Here

1. Being Unremarkable is Frustrating

Like I said, I’m not a pro at anything, but all the inspirational posts I see on social media are WAY above my ability. I noticed this first with rock climbing. Using climbing as a medium to travel the world and fall in love with places I’d otherwise never see is a major dream of mine, but every breathtaking area I see is way above my ability.

I choose to label myself as the unremarkable climber, not because I feel unremarkable in my climbing journey and abilities, but because it seems I am only good enough to complete the unremarkable climbs at every crag advertised to me! I noticed this pattern in my other hobbies as well.

It’s honestly kind of a struggle to plan fun adventures in areas you’re not familiar with, and it’s off-putting when all the “best” things-to-do seem to require a higher level of expertise. I just don’t have the time to train longer or the energy to train harder at any of my hobbies, but I love them all and want to find a way to incorporate them into my travels!

My goal is to create a stellar lineup of road trip goals, adventure goals, and climbing goals for people like me in search of rad and awe-inspiring adventures around the world—people who are competent but maybe not spectacular at anything!

I love how our passion for the outdoors can lead us places we would have never traveled otherwise and introduce us to some of the most amazing people from across the globe. We all have the same goal—to have fun while pushing our limits in a safe and supportive space, regardless if we can ski double blacks, climb a 5.12, get barreled, or just end up looking like kooks with a ton of new friends!

2. Social Media Doesn't Know Everything

There seems to be a disconnect.

I’ve grown up in California, gone to Hollywood countless times, learned to ski and climb in California, regularly taken road trips in California, and probably sat in LA traffic for years of my life, but the things I take out-of-towners to do are not what I see on social media. In fact, some of my friends were unaware that it snows anywhere in the state, nor had they heard of June gloom, the California Trifecta, or the fact that we tend to answer the question “how far” by time rather than miles (rush hour hits hard)!

I realized the first step to helping you guys plan the perfect adventure trip is out my door into my own backyard! I wish there were some local in some town across the world that could tell me the best way to immerse myself in their local culture and have a blast while maximizing exposure to the best activities and minimizing cost (so that you can do more of said activities).  My goal is to be that someone where I can!

3. The First Step is the Most Challenging

For me, the most challenging part of planning a trip is where to even begin.

A whole list of questions runs through my head every time I think of traveling somewhere foreign to me:

Where do I begin?

What should I do?

Is this activity even worth it?

Will I be in over my head?

What is local transportation like?

Are all the accommodation options this expensive?

Should I do this thing I’ve always wanted or save the money and stay an extra few days?

There HAS to be a better, cheaper, more straightforward way to do this.

And there is, but it’s not usually something you can find online. It’s in the advice of a local friend or family member who has pieced it together after years of trial and error. The hike where they didn’t bring enough water, the scenic view where all they could see were hundreds of tourists, the mountain where snowboarding finally clicked, the free campsite with no one around that just happened to have the best sunset view from the back of their car. It’s all in the advice based on years of experience— advice that I’d like to pass on to you.

Don't Be A Stranger!

I will do my best to add new guides, recommendations, and content as often as my tight schedule allows, but if you have a specific request don’t hesitate to contact me! Please send any questions or concerns, or any stories from trips I might have helped with!

I’m happy to give you recommendations for a future adventure if it’s somewhere I’ve already explored. Bear in mind, I might not give you exact locations in order to maintain the solitude of wilderness areas, but I can help put you on the right path with a bit of exploration on your part!

Plus, if you have any recommendations for what to add (or remove) from any guides (e.g. restaurant closures, new camping restrictions, fun activities I might have missed), I’m always looking to revise them with the most fun and accurate information to give you guys the best experience possible.
